Stress, STD, Cancer, Laundry Detergent, Medication?

by westie04, Jan 13, 2009 12:37AM
In the last month I have developed a patch of red skin with slight dryness on the shaft of my penis. Its not raised and is a bright to medium red discoloration. It does not itch and does not hurt.  It hasnt flaked but you can tell its dry.  Its not chaffing from masturbation.

The skin on my legs and pubic area have also had this red tint and feel sensitive.  Like there is some irritation but Im not sure if this is connected.  I had changed laundry detergents about a week before this began and am now in the process of changing back to my old detergent.

I also had a sexual encounter about a month ago, it was protected. Im not sure if my skin was irritated going into the encounter but it was the next morning.  My pubic area ended up getting a few bumps that went away after a couple weeks.  The bumps didnt itch or hurt either.

The red skin on my penis concerns me the most because I have a fear it could be an STD or something worse. I had chaffing and irritated skin on my penis for several months, many years back.  I associated that with a chemical reaction to a girlfriend.  I cant explain this one though.  Does it sound like anything someone has been through?

Hello,

Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be contact dermatitis, rash due to friction rub with clothes, dermatitis (atopic, contact, allergic),eczema or balanitis(due to an underlying infection (bacterial and fungal as well as other organisms) .
You may try calamine lotion on the rash. You should also maintain hygiene and try to keep the area clean and dry, wear loose-fitting cotton clothing. Also use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics. You can also use a barrier cream with zinc oxide paste or calamine lotion or a mild steroid cream like dermacort on the rash. If the rash is itchy, you  can take some antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin.

If the rash  persists then it will be best to get it evaluated from a dermatologist.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
