Sudden appearance of light patches around mouth

Hello,
My name is Mia. I am 20 years old, female. A while ago I got this blackish, dark ring around my chin and mouth area. I saw my doctor and she gave me a combination of Clotrimazole 1% and Hydrocortisone 1% cream. I used the cream for about 3 weeks. The blackish rash went away completely, but all of a sudden, there are two (very small) light patches around my mouth! They are not completely white, they are just a little lighter than the surrounding skin. They are not raised or have borders and they are not painful. However, because I have tan skin, they show up, and everyone has been pointing and them and asking me how I got them! I went back to my doctor and she shrugged it off! Please please help me, I'm so devastated!! What are they, will they go away? Please help me.

Hello,
Post inflammatory hypopigmentation is very difficult to treat, but Elidel cream or Protropic can be used on these hypopigmented  areas. But use them after a dermatologist’s guidance. If the symptoms still persist then  you can talk to your dermatologist about laser-assisted chemabrasion(LACA).It has provided excellent results in such hypopigmentation.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hello...thank you so much for all your help!! I am so grateful. Yes, I do believe now that it may be post-inflammatory hypopigmentation OR post-topical steroid hypopigmentation. I am doubting its a fungal infection. Dr. Bhupinder Kaur, will this go away in time or this is completely permanent? I do believe it was the hydrocortisone that has bleached my skin. Will the skin regain its original color in time? Thank you soo much for helping me! Eagerly awaiting your reply.

Hello,
I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be pityriasis versicolor or post inflammatory hypopigmentation. Tinea versicolor is caused by a fungus that lives in the skin of almost all adults. Factors that can cause the fungus to become more visible include high humidity and immune or hormone abnormalities. Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines. You should follow up with your doctor and get yourself prescribed topical antifungals.
