Superficial Melanoma--do we need to move faster/get a second opinion?

by Maddiekatz, Jul 19, 2007 12:00AM
My wife was just diagnosed with superficial melanoma by a dermatologist after a punch biopsy on a mole.   Dermatologist set "hexagonal excision" procedure for two weeeks from now.  We're out of town for that period so the new date for procedure is four weeks from now.  A) Is this dangerously far out in the future--a month away B) Should we get a second opinion on diagnosis/treatment and/or try to find another dermatologist who can do it sooner?

No, it sounds OK.  I suppose it wouldn't hurt to get it done sooner, if you can find another dermatologist or surgeon to do it sooner.  You could also change your travel plans, I guess.

Good luck.
