Swollen Hair Follicles

Since I was a little baby, I have been allergic to animal fur. Regardless, ever since I was a toddler my mother would buy me a pet dog or cat. Over the years (I am currently 16 years old) swollen hair follicles have built upon my skin. They cover my arms, my forearms, my face, and many other places of my body. Is there a way, a non-surgical treatment, to get rid of them? I have never had the chance to go to a proper dermatologist, and my regular doctor only provides me with cream that prevents any more from showing up.

I cannot confirm anything without examination but from what I have understood from the description of your symptoms is that it can be due to keratosis pilaris or folliculitis.Keratosis pilaris is a common genetic follicular condition that is manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin like goose bumps.

Keratosis pilaris occurs when the human body produces excess keratin, a natural protein in the skin. There is currently no known cure for keratosis pilaris, however, there are effective treatments available which make its symptoms less apparent. Treatment includes tretinoin or Triamcinolone cream or Adapalene, a retinoid medication. Exfoliation, intensive moisturizing creams, creams and lotions containing alpha hydroxy acids and urea may be used to temporarily improve the appearance and texture of affected skin.
I would suggest a diagnostic evaluation by a dermatologist.Treatment will depend on the diagnosis.
