Swollen Lips

Over the last year my lips have swollen up so much so that my top lip touches my nose and my bottom lip swells to the same size.  My lips then develop a rash around the edges of my lips and it hurts.  My lips develop a white ring around them and they burn until they do down.  Lately it's been taking 3-4 days to get back to normal.  I've seen many doctors and no one can tell me anything.  I've taken allergy tests and I do not have a food allergy.  I did a patch test and found out that I'm allergic to certain makeup.  I no longer wear lipstick.  But my lips still swell up.  I now know when it's going to happen because I develop a small rash on my lips and then a day or two later, my lips swell up.  Has anyone ever heard of this?  It's beginning to cause me major problems as when they swell, I can not go out.  Please help!!!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

This may be a hypersensitivity reaction to an unknown trigger.

How old are you?

For young women, it may be of help to request for ANA levels and other tests to rule out involvement of autoimmune disorders. This is something that you may want to discuss with your doctor. If joint pains are present and if rash or abdominal pains hav been present, then you may need further evaluation. At this point allergic reactions and fungal infections may also be differentials as they are far common.

Have you applied any medications on the area?
