Swollen cerival lymph nodes

by mcarva, Jan 07, 2007 12:00AM
Last January I had an infection on my right toe which I brought to my doctor's attention.  I had had it a while before I went to the doctor.  Ironically, I also had noticed a tender spot on the right side of the neck and I also brought this to the doctor's attention.  She gave me an antibiotic for the toe(which I did not take because the infection finally went away) and said the neck was fine.
In July, I had my annual checkup with my PCP and he did not feel anything wrong with my neck.
In November, I still felt the tender spot and also thought I felt a lump or something different on the right side of my neck.  Went to another doctor; doctor said neck felt okay.
Beginning of December I went back to my PCP to have him feel my neck again.  Once again, he said he could not feel anything abnormal.
End of December went to a chiropractor who said my neck definitely looked different on one side and she could feel swollen glands.  Went back to my PCP to tell him this.  He felt my neck again, said he could not feel swollen nodes but ordered a thyroid ultrasound to make sure it wss not a thyroid nodule.
Ultrasound came back showing multiple enlarged nodes on the right side, one of them abnormally shaped and 2.3cm long.
My PCP took a check xray, blood tests and examined my spleen, liver and other nodes for swelling.  All negative.  I am scheduled for a biopsy on Tuesday.  I have no other symptoms.
I am sorry this is so long.  I am absolutely terrified I have cancer that has been overlooked.  I don't understand how 3 different doctors can examine my neck at 4 different times and not feel what I was feeling.  This may sound stupid, but is it possible the toe infection caused these glands to swell?  I have not had any other infections I can think of so is there anything beside cancer that could be causing this?

I can't think of any connection between the toe infection and these swollen nodes.  I'm afraid I can't speculate about what these swellings are, or why they weren't clinically evident before.  You'll have to wait for the biopsy and its results.

Sorry I can't be more illuminating.
