Tender skin - sore to the touch

Hi -

I am hoping that someone might have some feedback on an issue I have been experiencing over the last year with various areas of skin.  It started with my legs and back but now has moved to my face.  Basically, for about 24 - 48 hours, an area of skin (generally from the size of a softball to basketball) will become extremely tender and sore to the touch ... almost as if it were bruised significantly.  It is so tender that clothes brushing against it is painful.  The problem is, there is no visual evidence of it.  I went to the doctor and felt as though he was insinuating that I was making up the symptoms because he could not see anything.   Very, very frustrating.  Again, just wondering if anyone here has ever experienced anything similar.  At the moment, the skin on my entire face aches and it is difficult to even take a shower.  If it follows my past episodes, it will fade within a day or two so it is not too much of a problem but it would definitely be nice to get a better understanding of what is happening inside my body and if there is anything I can do to prevent/relieve it.

I thank you in advance for your time and help.

Regards,
Stef

This same thing has happened to both of my knees where the skin feels irritated but nothing is showing up.  When my pants rub against them it feels like I've skinned them.  It's uncomfortable and it started last week.  I'm attributing this to STRESS.  We all have different reactions to situations and who knows what is happening within us?  It may be a reaction to temperature change, atmosphere change, something we ate, or to what is currently going on in our lives.  Whether we are women or men we all react differently.  Let's take a step in the right direction and try to figure this out and help each other.  It certainly helps that I can voice my opinion to all of you and share a problem that my doctor doesn't know about.  Thanks for listening.

I disagree Tymes.  I don't think anyone here is diagnosing anyone.  Everyone on this post is trying to help understand what looks like the professionals are not giving clear answers to.  I found the answer I was looking for here...Not anywhere else, so don't judge.

you might want to look into fibromyalgia. I didn't know until I was sent to a doctor about some blood test that turned out to not be a problem but once he heard about my pains that had no explanation he became interested and diagnosed me with fibromyalgia but I have to see another dc to confirm it bc its they have to rule every thing ells out b4 they decide that's what you have. He game me a little booklet on fibromyalgia to help me understand it and as I read it I fond I have all but 1 symptom and I had all 3 of the symptoms that categorize it as chronic fibromyalgia. the main symptom of fibromyalgia is the over sensitive nerves. for example if it hurts when ppl lightly touch you or it get worst in the cold. when I have a cold I know right away bc my symptom peek bc of my week state. It becomes to painful to move and it hurts for anything to touch my skin, even my own clothes cause me grate pain if I move. It might not be what you have but try to look into it and have your doctor send you to a specialist. I was 20 when diagnosed and I had been suffering sense b4 age 16. I was told that my pains could be explained and that was it. it was only by chance that I saw the right specialist who saw what it really was and now im on my way to seeking help, but sadly there isn't much to be done for this condition. I hope I was of help.

When I get into bed at night and the sheets move my jammies around on my lower legs I get the sunburn pain.  It lasts for about 30 minutes or less if I'm very still. This is every night for months.

Thoughts:
I have had very severe anxiety which is getting better.
I have gained about 10 lbs and my jeans are too tight but trying to lose the weight instead of buying larger.
I sit with an electric heater blowing on my lower legs all day (am wearing jeans tho)
I feel like I tense my muscles all day.

Also, I have neuropathy in my fingertips and ankles to bottom of feet from chemo completed almost 6 years ago.

I wonder if anyone else has any of those possible causes.
