Treatment for Hyperpigmentation

by Roki, Apr 12, 2002 12:00AM
I am a medical transcriptionist working as an IC.  One of my clients dictated a letter in which she states she prescribed some kind of medicine called "________________ formula" for topical treatment of hyperpigmentation of the face.  I drafted the letter with a blank.  The Dr. filled in the blank with a word that looks like it begins with "R," but I can't make it out.  It is capitalized, so I assume it is an eponym.  I have exhausted all other references.  Have you any idea what this could be?
Thanks very much.

Treatments for hyperpigmentation include:

hydroquinone
Retin-A (retinoic acid)
kojic acid
azelaic acid

The combination of hydroquinone, Retin-A, and a cortisone is associated with the noted Philadelphia dermatologist Albert Kligman, and is referred to as the Kligman formula.

This might explain the "formula" part but not the "R," whereas Retina-A has the "R" but not the "formula."

Hope this helps.

I had laser hair removal for my face and neck.  Apparently, it was taking quite a few more treatments than usual to remove all of my hair.  At my 12th visit, I experienced redness and swelling which resulted in hyperpigmentation spots ALL over my neck and on my cheeks.  I am of Indian descent and am darker complected.  I have been on Triluma for the past 3 months and have had no resolution to these spots, not to mention the fact that my husband and I are ready to start a family and I have been told I cannot get pregnant on this medication.  I have been told by my dermatologist office to NOT have any derm abrasion while on the Triluma, yet the esthetician who did my hair removal treatments strongly feels that that is the only thing that will work? I feel like no one can give me a straight answer as to how to properly treat this. Can you give me any suggestions?
