Treatment for folliculitis

by MF406, Apr 02, 2009 02:32PM
Hi, I want to know if there is an effective and long term treatment for Folliculitis, I have tried craem antibiotics like Fucicort and oral antibiotics like ciprofloxacino MK, and the Pus-filled blisters in my head disappear for some time but then after some weeks the problem comes back.

This large blisters are very painfull and when are gone they left hairless spots, this situation is very embarasing because some people that notice this problem ask about it like it.

Hello,

If the folliculitis is not responding to antibiotics, then other causes of folliculitis must be investigated. Eosinophilic pustular folliculitis does not respond to systemic antibiotics; however, it may respond to isotretinoin, metronidazole, UV-B phototherapy, indomethacin, or itraconazole.Similarly the infecting organism may be fungal or viral(herpes) in origin and for that specific treatment is required.

I would suggest that you get a biopsy of the lesion and also get culture of the pus discharge to find out the cause. Then specific treatment may be required.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Warm regards.
