I've been having a hair loss issue for the past 6 years or so now starting from my freshman year in high schoolPreschooler development Preschooler test Preschooler test or procedure preparation School age child development School age test or procedure preparation School-age children development when my headHead and face reconstruction Head injury Head lice Indications of head injury Radial head injury started becoming rather itchy. I didn't notice the hair loss much back then because I had a really thick headHead and face reconstruction Head injury Head lice Indications of head injury Radial head injury of hair, so thick that whenever I showered I wasn't sure if the water had reached the scalp or not. Really thick hair has run in the familyBirth control and family planning Choosing a primary care provider Ewing’s sarcoma Family troubles - resources on my father's side and I inherited it. I started noticing the thinning around my freshman year in college, it was a very gradual process so I suspect that is why nobody including myself had taken much notice of it before, but for my hair loss to be noticeable by then would have meant that around 35% or more of my hair had already been lost. Hair continued to be lost mostly in the shower where I would notice approximately 200+ hairs fall out during the course of 10 minutes, and more during the day whenever I would scratchAllergy skin prick or scratch test Allergy testing my headHead and face reconstruction Head injury Head lice Indications of head injury Radial head injury. Hair loss would only remotely be associated with testing times, perhaps a bit of an increase in itchiness but nothing too much out of the ordinary scratching. Various family doctors brushed it aside because according to them I still had a natural-looking, healthy head of hair and while that may be the case in comparison to many people my pronounced hair loss at my age could be a sign of something deeper that needs treatment. I've lost around 50% - 60% of my hair by now, it's my junior year in college and we've visited multiple dermatologists and an endocrinologist in hopes that maybe it had something to do with my thyroid (after a few second opinions we decided not to follow through with treatment). A full blood panel has been taken (fasting) showing no signs of abnormality, we're waiting on the results of another recent blood panel to see if anything has changed. There is no family history of male pattern baldness on either side of my family and the thinning of the hair on my scalp is diffuse, no localized. My father is losing his hair, but he's in his late 60's. I've tried Nizoral with minimal success and am considering Rogaine, but having to resort to attempting to regrow my hair at my age seems ridiculous even to me.
It might be interesting to note that we had observed tiny red bumps on my scalp before, they itched and I had sensations of crawling on my head when I went to sleep at night sometimes. The bumps have since then disappeared (I'll have to check again), but were an episode that left me wondering. The itchiness is still there, the hair loss is still there in a milder form, and the thinning is still noticeable, but now to others as well.
Medical Advice would be much appreciated, please help. If there is anything else you wish to know please feel free to ask.
Well the blood panel came back, apparently I've very healthy, but the hair loss is still there along with the itching and I've noticed that I do still have those little red bumps on my head. Can anyone help with this?
Thank you,
-Fabian.
