Vitiligo on my Penis head?

Hello to All:

I am a 29yr old white male, very healthy. Being caucasian, my penis head has...well...you know...that pinkish white color. the past 2-3 years...I have been seeing these dark, brown spots evolving around my penis head. It began in the base...and over the years I got a few more spots around the rest of the penis head. (Lets say a total of 4 brown spots). Thinking that I was on the verge of death...(or death to my sex life..since many women thought I had an infectous disease)...I went to the University of Chicago dermatology center. They stated I had Vitiligo. (I never knew vitiligo were of "brown" in nature. I thought they were more of "white discoloration."

Then I went to another dermatologist for a second opinion. She looked a bit puzzled...and got my on PseudoCatalase. A Cream I purshed from the Northwestern IL Pharmacy. That cream also did nothing. (I placed it on my penis head 3x daily).

I never had this issue when I was 24. Now that I am 29 it looks like my penis head is transforming into a brown spotted sexual organ. It definitely does not look healthy.

Can any doctor on this portal help? Are there dermatologists or Ureologists that can help me out here? Is there a steroid cream that can strengthen the skin around my penis head?

Many thanks!!

Niko-Lee

Vitiligo, loss of pigment, is quite common on the penis.  I'm confident that the dermatologists you saw knew what they were saying, though perhaps they didn't explain it enough.  When you lose pigment, it leaves islands of color, which is what I assume the "brown spots" are--your original skin color.

If this explanation doesn't fit what you see, then by all means get another opinion.  But if the diagnosis is correct, whcih I assume it is, then your best bet is to ignore the color change, which means nothing.  Vitiligo treamtnets aren't very helpful, though you may want to ask a dermatologist about Protopic, a new immune-system stimulating cream uused for eczema, which is safe to use on the penis and may help.

As for your sexual partners' suspicions, just tell it like it is, or get a doctor's note . . .

Best.

Hello.  I am not a doctor.  I am just a regular guy.  But, as discoloration of the penis is highly alarming, and it IS, I wanted to report my resent experiences.  I had developed white splotches on the shaft of my penis just under the glans some years ago, but because there were no symptoms, besides the color, or lack of it, I didn't worry.  Well, I did worry enough to go to the doctor. I showed my GP and an STD specialist, and they were not concerned, so I stopped thinking about it.

Then I noticed darker splotches on the head of my penis one morning after a particularly successful night of making out.

Now I freaked out.  Dark splotches on your **** head are alarming.

My GP gave me an anti-fungal cream but assured me that I didn't appear to have any kind of STD.  He then sent me to a dermatologist.  My dermatologist took one look and said, "the good news is that you have no cancer or STD."  He then went on to explain VITILIGO to me.  Apparently, the darker spots (which, in time, will become the white, pigmentless splotches) can be treated, whereas the "milk-white spots" are lost causes.

He prescribed ELIDEL by Novartis.  And I am happy to report that the darker spots have returned to the normal color.  In hopes of a miracle, I've applied the Elidel to the white spots to, but to no avail.

However: if you are looking for a vitiligo treatment for the early stages and don't want a steroid (bad for the penis, my dermatologist says), consider Elidel.

I'm happy that this, otherwise, very alarming segment of my sexual life had a happy ending.

Good luck to you all.  Don

Vitiligo can cause darkened areas of pigmentation i.e. the brown spots, its not as common as the normal white or discoloured areas but then vitiligo isn't very well understood and may well turn out to be a generic term for several similar afflictions.

The use of Elidel and protopic will work only in some cases, they are local immuno-modulators if i remember correctly, in other words if its your immune system ******* up your skin and making the brown spots theres a good chance it can help/cure it.

Do not use steroids at all on your penis, they cause the skins to become very thin i.e. the skin will rip apart if u sleep with a woman thats very tight or tight, and cause stretch marks on the skin as well, these affects come in at varied times on people most commonly around the 3 month mark. Steroids also arnt guarrantteed to work so be carefull if your doctor prescribes them for you since most doctors know little about vitiligo.

The best advice i can give u is to find a dermotologist that specialises in vitiligo since they will be able to tell you one way or the other what the skin problems are.

Your dermotologist might or might not give u a skin test for hydrogen peroxide ( its effects on vitiligo are not well known ), if u dont get a test ask for one since u can use Pseudocatalase variants to treat it in that case.

The only other possible treatment i know of for vitiligo on the penis short of puva etc which is very time consuming ( unless u use the less effective home treatment kits ) is the use of Narrow Band UVB light laser surgery which is supposed to work very well but also costs a small fortune. Whatever you do to treat the vitiligo on your penis aim for at least 15 to 20 minutes exposure to sunlight a day on the areas since u will need to help the body kick start the repigmentation process.

good luck.

I stumbled accross this site today.

I have a situation where I have dark patches on the head of my penis too.  It all seemed to start when I was out of town one time and went to a tanning bed and tried nude tanning.  It hasn't seen sun light or a tanning bed in a long time, but yet the patches are still there.

They sort of look like freckles, but they are more grayish.  They aren't raised or anything.  I have read posts that say it's vitaligo and others suggest that it might be scars.

OK..here is the truth since we are all mature adults.  I want to go to the doctor to ask what they are, but the one article I read said they could be scars from sex or masterbation.  I have to admit, when I went to the tanning spa, when I got back to the hotel I did "take things into my own hands" so to speak.  I did remember that at the hotel, the conditioner provided by the hotel that I used as a lubricant did seem to make the head of my penis red for a little while.  I didn't think anything of it at the time, but could I have given myself some sort of abbraision scars?

I'm embarassed to see the doctor if he says its from masterbation.  Is there a way to tell if it's vitaligo or scars?  Please help.

I also read that after seven years, scar tissue sometimes goes away.

Kevin

I believe Michael Jackson had this same problem..
the solution is to bleach your skin so at least you have an even skin tone and stay out of the sun - I believe the bleach is called benequin or something like that...
I think a lot of doctors will discourage it, but I don't think that they understand the psychological damage of not being able to have sex with the lights on or the psychological damage of grossing out your sex partner.. it is not unusual to get vitiligo on your penis but you don't hear much about it..
From what I hear, this treatment makes people feel better about themselves.. I myself don't like the idea of just living with it..that seems sort of lame...   if it was just a tiny spot you might try cosmetic tatooing called micropigmentation but then again, as vitiligo tends to spread albeit slowly this might not help alot of people.. I am not a doctor but I do have vitiligo on my penis as well and am looking forward to this type of treatment..but I have been too ashamed to even go in for treatment... showing off a discolored penis is not a pleasant idea so I am hoping that I myself can find a doctor who will just hand over the bleach and let me be on my way...
I have little faith in UVA or PUVA or dead sea treatment and think that just being one color would be nice even if it is albino...but you know what you could be bleached completely and then go and get that full body tanning spray..

whoa.... where did the bior strip comment come from.  LOL  A doc just told me I have vitiligo. To my shock!  I'm a sundbed tanner, and although I have been out of them for 6 months, I haven't been able to get rid of some blotchyness on my outer upper arms.  I have like 3 blotches on one side, and one small on the other.  Now my blotches still have freckles in there, isn't that proof that it can't be vitiligo.   My doc didn't speek very good english.  And he diagnosted it withought taking any biopsies or anything.  So I'm heading to the dermatologist for a second opinion.  I remember at one time these blotches were peeling like I had a fungus or phsiriouses(sp). they've also come and gone for the last 10 years.  My mother also would get these sorts of spots when she excesively tanned herself, and thy have gone away.  Could the doctor had been mistaken????  Sorry for all the mispelling!!

Doesn't protopic sort of inhibit aspects of the immune system since it is working against eczema/inflammation???? I was just suprised that you said protopic stimulates the immune system

Actaully, it modulates the immune system in as-yet-not understood ways.  I was searching for a less fancy word for "modulate" that would not imply that it weakens the immune system (which "inhibit" suggests), whereas it does not in fact weaken the skin's resistance.
