When it starts to get immflamed underneath, the thick skin on the top will split and start peeling. I was using tweezers the other night trying to yank off the dead, dry skin that was hanging off of it. The skin of this thing is not attached to any good skin around it. So I hauled off and yanked a piece of the skin off. When I did, I pulled a fairly long white thing which resembled a "skinny maggot" out of this thing. I looked at it and squeezed it to see if there was anything inside of it but it was all a tissue like material. Within the next couple of days I pulled a few more out similar to this. Is this what roots on a facial wart look like? I have seen my daughter get her finger caught in an umbrella and pull a wart off her finger by the roots and what I am pulling out of this thing on my face in no way resembles those. These are bigger around. They do leave considerable holes in the thing when I pull them out but by the next morning the area seems to be scabbed over with that really thick skin again. Plus I didn't think wart were supposed to hurt. Even when I am not messing with it, it can become imflammed and very sore. Other times it is fine.
My thoughts are that I need to see a dermatologist, but my PCP says we should wait for now and see if it will shrink down any. It has grown about double in size over the last couple of months and it is now the size of a dime. Should I argue with her until she sends me. My insurance requires a referral or I am going to have to pay through the nose for the appointment so I would like to have her approval. I should also mention that both my father and my maternal grandmother have had cancerous growths removed from thier faces, and the one my grandmother had was very similar to the one I have.
Any thoughts or comments on this would be greatly appreciated!
There is no single treatment for warts that is 100% effective and different types of treatment may be combined.
You should consult a skin specialist for the symptoms. If these are plane warts - you would benefit by using salicylic acid cream, cryotherapy, curettage and light cautery.
If these are filiform warts - cryotherapy or curettage and light cautery would help.
Facial warts should not be treated with wart paints because of the risk of severe irritation and possible scarring.
