Weird skin patches on face

Weird skin patches on face

Hi there,

I will just give a brief background but this has got to do with my facial skin.

I have been concerned about herpes on my face but the doctor seems to think it's not. I have had an awful few weeks taking different medications for a vaginal infection. One gynecologist finally told me to stop all medication as I had a bad yeast infection. HOwever, before this my face had become swollen and eyelids swollen with a twitch.

So the swelling finally went down but I noticed on my eyelids the skin is looking a little different to the rest of my face. Also noticed like a circular patch under the bags of my eyes that is like indented, like a crater but not very deep. probably around 1.5 cm in diameter. I figured that this would go away after the swelling. But it didn't.

So a week later (yesterday) I freaked out because the right side of my face swelled up and the eye twitch got real bad. I had numbness in my face and couldn't feel my nose.I went straight to the hospital and the doc said it was a nerve issue and gave me some tablets. It has gotten a little better and the twitch stopped but my eyes are still swollen.

I noticed another circular spot on my nose. So my question is..... is this a skin condition due to medication? These areas don't blister...I am just concerned about these.

Any advice would be great.

Hello,
Sudden swelling of the face and numbness are not normal. Unexplained swelling of the face without any predisposing disease is frequently caused by allergies. An allergic reaction can occur suddenly, even in a person with no previous history of allergy. This swelling is called angioedema. Diagnosis is by clinical examination and complete blood tests, electrolytes and renal function tests. Treatment is by antihistaminics like Benadryl or Zyrtec and steroids. If the symptoms persist then please get it evaluated from a physician. Other causes like cardiac, kidney and neurological causes need to be ruled out.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Thanks Bhupinder,

I feel a little better about my situation after reading your comments. My eyes are still swollen so it's been about two weeks. I saw an opthamologist that prescribed two different eye drops, one a steroid. But my eyes are still swollen after a week of using this.

I am going to a doctor but can't get into to see one until the end of the week. If you can provide some more advice that would be great.
