What are these white marks on the head of my penis?

by engphoenix, May 19, 2007 12:00AM
Hello Doctors

For a while now I have had these white blotches on the head of my penis. They are bumpy and pronounced from the glans itself almost feeling kind of scaly. It would seem that the area of my foreskin touching it has also been infected by whatever this might be.

I have uploaded a couple of photos here (apologies for the poor quality)

They do not hurt or give me any discomfort in any way but visually they are obviously not very appealing and I cant help fearing they may make my penis smell worse too.

They have been there now for sometime and I cant fathom going to a doctor about them (I have a pathological fear of doctors, let alone with such tender matters) but there are only so many excuses I can give for not letting my girlfriend get close to it.

Really hope you can suggest either what it may be or possible cures (I live in the UK so no exclusively American medicines/creams please!!!!)

Many Thanks again

It may be a yeast infection (not contagious, by the way), so I'd start with clotrimazole or miconazole creams (which you should be able to get without a prescription.)  If that doesn't clear you up in 2 weeks, you'll need to overcome your pathological fear of doctors.  We do come in handy at times.....

Best.

Thank you for your speedy reply.

I know you dont normally answer follow up questions but I thought i'd try just regarding the product itself.

From what I can find on the internet clotrimazole is marketed in the UK and further afield as Canesten, which offers alternatives such as an oral capsule or various creams.

I'm assuming you are reccommending the cream but should I need to know anything about application etc. as I think this product is more specifically designed to treat Thrush etc.??

Many Thanks
