What could this be

by So Confused, Apr 24, 2006 12:00AM
I am a 25 year old Male currently working in Europe.  About 2 months ago I was having sex with a coworker when the condom broke.  I waited a week and went to the doctor to get an STD test (Urine sample).  The test came back negative and I was put on a prescription of dioxycline which I finished.  About 2 weeks later I began to feel a tingling/itching sensation in my Urethra and began to worry.  I went back to the U.S. two weeks after that, so 5 weeks after the condom broke to see an Urologist.  He performed the same urine test as well as an examination of my penis.  He said that everything looked normal and the feeling should go away.  I flew back to Europe and a week back into my trip I began to develop a rash on my scrotum.  The skin on my scrotum had turned red and scaly and at times burned unbelievably.  When I get out of the shower the burning is almost automatic and I can also sometimes feel it on my inner thighs.  The skin on the shaft of my penis has started to develop red/brown blotchy patches but never burns.  However, the skin on the head of my penis gets very red blotchy areas that burn tremendously and raised bumps that I wouldn’t call blisters.  It lasts for a day, goes away and then comes back almost a week later. I also started having constant “dripping” after I urinate, but no discharge.  Also, the urine stream seems to spray out when I’m almost done or become very slow.  I went back to the U.S. last week to see my urologist and my GP to see what was going on (Two months after the incident).  Both said that they didn’t see anything abnormal other than dry skin and what looked like a rash on my scrotum.  My GP gave me a prescription for a cream to stop the burning and itching and my Urologist gave me a prescription for an inflamed prostate.  I’ve been taking the pills and using the cream for about a week and half now and the burning feeling on my scrotum/penis head and itching feeling in my Urethra have not subsided at all.  I have no idea what this could be and am very worried as to what it could be, especially something like Herpes or HPV.  I’m not going back to the U.S. for at least another month and I’m not sure if I should make an appointment with my Urologist, GP, or a Dermatologist.  I’m not sure if this matters but I have been taking Percocet and Dioxycline on and off for months due to persistent painful epididymitis.  I’ve had very painful epididymitis for the past 3 years after I had my left testicle removed due to a ruptured tumor.  I also take prescribed Adderall (adderrall) when I feel I need it.   If you have any advice or ideas as to what this could be I would really appreciate it.

I think you've had enough exams and tests to rule out an STD.  The rash, dry skin, and burning are, at this point, most likely a combination of irritation and anxiety.  My advice is to forget about STD's you don't have, to use nothing on the genitals but mild soap and moisturizer, and to see a dermatologist if you're still troubled by the skin when you get back.  As for the epididyimitis, a urologist would be your best bet.

Take care.

I have had an incredible itch on the underside of my scrotum for several years. Yes, I said years. I have been to embarrassed to seek medical advice for it. But, I wonder if it could be herpes. Oh please, anything but that! It is constant. My scrotal sac itches constantly and I often scratch it til it is raw. I have tried moisturizers, antifungals, and hydrocortizone. It seems that if it were herpes, it would subside and resolve from time to time. This, again, is constant and unbearably itchy. I also have a similar patch of skin on my right hand between the bottom of my thumb (above the joint) and my wrist. Any ideas on what it could be other than herpes?

I have been using a hydrocortizone cream for the head of my penis and it has helped the burning.  I'm still experiencing the burning on the skin of my scrotum but that is not what's worrying anymore.  I still have the itching/uncomfortable feeling in the tip of my urethra and when I look inside the tip of my penis about 1/8 inch down I think I see what looks like a small redish/pinkish spot that I dont see anywhere else in the urethra. I know I've had two doctors fully examine me but is there a possiblity they could have missed this?  I don't think I have Herpes because in the past 2 months I haven't had an outbreak, but is it possible to get HPV in the urethra and could this be it?

I have no Idea what this is on me.  It started off as one small bump on my wrist first and then i think it moved around to my penis head and other areas.  I didn't think it could be anything sexually transmitted b/c i hadn't had sex before then in about a year.  But needless to say over the years it has seemed to spread around to certain areas of my body.  On my right wrist (under the palm side) around my belly button(small mass of bumps, around my penis head (more than just one now of course) and on each side of my chest above my nipples (in two areas).  I eventually thought it was something i got while playing football (chest area is where shoulder pads use to press against my chest the most)and it spread b/c of the sweat. They don't itch, burn, leak, or anything they are just there.  SO i don't think it is herpes, and honestly afraid to go get checked. I got ahold of some elocon lotion .1% on my penis head and they seemed to go away until i quit using it and then they would come back about 2 to 3 weeks later.  I've checked other sites and they haven't said anything about small bumps around the naval or chest.  I have also noticed small bumps deep under my skin on my left palm and index finger, they don't hurt or anything either they just sit there.  Any advice right about now would be good.  I  use to work out alot and run all the time, and just started up about a month ago again and have noticed some increase in bumps around do you think the sweat, moisture and showers are making things worse. Appreciate any info thanx,

For quite sometime I've had a spot on my butt, just to the side of the spincter, which at times will itch and the only way I get it to stop is to use a cream. It will suppress it, and then it will go away, or I should say stop itching uncontrollably, its always there. When it does get inflamed, the skin is raised a bit. It only seems to be an issue when I going to bed, or while releasing my bowels. This issue has been a problem for quite sometime now. Just recently, my scrotum started to itch and it started to develop a dry patch, but know it seems to have spread to the shaft of my penis. I was applying some moisturizers on it before and after the shower. I don't seem to have any type of blistering or any bumps just a bunch of dry itchy skin that just will not stop. Can anyone help with this. I don't use regular soaps, I've always used liquid soap and have never had an issue. Another thing, I notice one night when having sex with my wife that my scrotum started to burn after she orgasmed and her secretion was on my scrotum. That seemed to be the start of it, or it was just a mild case then.
