What do you think I have? How can I manage this?

I am a junior at high school. I have this strange scalp condition that dandruff grows on my scalp after my hair starts growing out. When I use a shampoo (Head & Shoulder, denorex, selsun blue....etc.) It doesn't do anything, its like the shampoo doesn't get to my scalp to clean it. The only way I am so far able to clean it is that I have to shave my head first and then I can shampoo it. I went to a dermatologist and was given a shampoo that has 2.5% selenium Sulfide but had no effect. My skin occasionally produces an excessive amount of sebum and before I turn 14 I never had this problem, my skin was nearly perfect. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!!!

Hi,

This may be a case of seborrheic dermatitis. At this point the cause of seborrheic dermatitis is not definitely known. The yeast pityrosporum ovale has been implicated in its development. Weather ,stress ,genetic and environmental factors have also been associated with seborrheic dermatitis.

Treatment lies in frequent and vigorous shampooing of the scalp with medicated shampoos. The frequency of shampooing is important. In some cases, avoiding too much stress and a healthy lifestyle may help. However, seborrheic dermatitis may recur and they may also occur in other parts of the body.
