What is this infection on my penis.

Doctor,
6 Weeks ago I had unprotected oral sex from a SW. It was brief, but worried as I have an infection on penis. Early March I had Tingling in penis and noticed Redness and swelling on the topside of my penis, below Glands on the Shaft. Im circumcised and the redness and swelling is located in the old scars. Thinking its was herpes I visited the Clinic who performed all tests, all are clear. I am waiting for HIV, but as no blisters they did not test for herpes.

Confident I was OK I hoped it would clear, but the symptoms remained. It is not painful but tender and have an aching sensation on and off. 2 weeks later went to GP who prescribed anti fungal cream. The cream didnt resolve the issue but did ease the symptoms. Used it for 3 weeks but no further improvement. GP now Prescribed a Steroid Cream, used for 3 days but had to stop due to uncomfortable sensation which started me to wory that it was Herpes. Stopped the cream and the tingling stopped. The cream reduced the symptoms but I couldnt contiue with it.

Went back to the GP this time the doctor prescribed Canesten HC, which did not give me the uncomfortable sensation. I applied this cream for 2 weeks as per the doctors instruction. It seemd to be working, but the symptoms did not go all together. The GP instructed me to contiue for a further week, but no further improvement. Went back to the GP again  told me to keep on a further 2 weeks and if no improvement he would refer me to a specialist. After a week I have stopped applying the cream as I felt it was making no improvement. Today a week after I stopped applying the cream but symptoms have returned. Area is red swollen & had the mild Aching feeling on and off.

Im sure its not Herpes as no blisters & had the symptoms for 2 months. Am I correct? Could it be Warts or does it sound like a skin issue? I have avoided sex but Im frustated that it will not go. Do you think should accept it or go to the specialist? I am safe to have sex with my wife?

It sounds to me as though you most likely have mild irritation, plus a lot of unnecessary anxiety.  There is nothing whatsoever in your description to suggest herpes, warts, or any other STD.  You've seen enough doctors and used enough creams.  I suggest you use nothing medicated for at least a month, and ignore any ache or other sensation as irrelevant.  If you still have concerns in a month, see a dermatologist then.

Take care.

Thank you for your reply I appricate your comments.

I made a small error on the inital question, the exposure with the SW was 16 Weeks ago. Also I forgot to mention that the the swelling is also affecting the Gland of my penis, adjecent to red swelling area. Does this information change your above comments?

I am in agreement that the symptoms I am experiencing do not seem like an STD, but I think my worry is stemming from my stupidity in visiting the SW earlier in the year and the fact that medication has failed to cure the issue.

Thank you
