What is this rash ? It seems no one can figure it out!

I am 17 weeks pregnant  , allergic to every thing under the sun ! I have never had an allergic reaction that looks like this so I went to the dr , first I was told psoriasis then after a week worth of Prednisone and no help they said it was an allergic reaction , Im on my second treatment of steriods . Some days it doesnt itch at all , some days I want to rip my skin off. They are large red raised patches then dry over with flaky skin , then start all over again with the same process. Its all over my abdomen and back as well as my forearms . One or two spots on my legs. No one else in my house has this , and i have had it for about three weeks now.

Here are two pictures of it

Hi,

Pregnancy related allergy reaction are known and seen anytime in pregnancy. They present with lesions anywhere in the body and are relieved with end of pregnancy and anti-allergics.

How are you doing now? Have you consulted an allergy specialist for your symptoms?

Have you had any benefit from calamine lotion and antihistamine medications?

This could be related to hormonal changes associated with the pregnancy and postpartum period. 'The varied collection of skin peculiarities that crop up during pregnancy, including rashes, redness, acne, discolorations, and other eruptions.'

'It's those pregnancy hormones at work yet again, causing your pores to secrete excess oil, making you vulnerable to heat rash, and visiting discolorations on your face, legs, palms, and soles. They're even responsible for a particularly unpleasant kind of skin eruption known as PUPPP (pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy), or lesions in your stretch marks. Skin tags, or small, raised growths on the skin, are common during pregnancy, too, particularly under your arms.'

You could read more about this at the following link -

Your doctor/dermatologist would be able to provide you help here.

Hope this helped. Let us know if there are any other queries and keep us posted on your health.

Best regards

I have been to the Doctors they are as baffled with this as I am. They keep changing their minds on what it could be . Im on an antifungal cream now as well as prednisone to see if that will combat the rash

Because you are pregnant, i think you should go to the Ask a Doctor Dermatology forum and ask Dr Rockoff this question for $19, rather than taking advice from anyone less qualified. Use gentle products on your skin such as those by Eucerin, Aveeno or Oiltum. Take great care not to slip if you use any bath oils. Check with a doctor before taking any over the counter medicines such as anti-histamines. If you develop any other symptoms such as swelling of the tongue, lips or fingers or trouble breathing seek medical help immediately. Hope you feel better soon and congratulations on your pregnancy. loiloi x
