What to do about a rash which is everywhere?

by Arashi47, Jul 15, 2009 01:59AM
When I was 7 or 8 I had eczema on my arms and legs, and it was gone for some time, but then it came back at the beginning of the summer this year. I am 14 now, and the rash is annoying as anything. My main concern now is the rash that has developed around my nipples. The skin is dry, flaky, and sometimes broken in the areola area. I am living with my dad and brother, so I don't quite know how to ask about it. I'm afraid it may be skin cancer, or something. It isn't very read, just flaky and irritating, and the itch is all over my body. Has anyone got a diagnosis, or advice? Thank you.

Hello,
I cannot confirm anything without examination but it sounds like eczema. Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps.

For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). Also use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin.

If still the symptoms do not improve then pls get a clinical examination done by a dermatologist.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
