What's this on my lip?

by D.R., Dec 22, 1999 12:00AM
I have lots of very tiny white spots on my upper lip. You have to look at my lip at close range in order to see them. They don't hurt. I guess I first noticed 1 to 2 years ago.
Lower lip appears unaffected.
Any idea what they are, what's causing them, how to get rid of them?
I'm 23/male, non-smoker, drink alcohol maybe twice a month.
Thanks

DR:

Most likely they are sebaceous, or oil glands.  This is known as Fordyce's condition, after the dermatologist who noted it.

It's not a disease--just that oil glands, which we all have all over the face, are visib;e when there are enough of them on a pink background such as the lip.  Cause: unknown.  Treatment: unavailbale.  Significance: nil.

Best.
