White scally look on my glans penis.

by FehSeb88, Oct 27, 2008 08:24PM
Hi,

About two days ago I noticed a difference in the appearance of my glans penis. It seems as though small flakes of skin are coming of. There are some on the rim, where the glans starts and some all along almost to the top where the urethra ends. When rubbed more comes of and when left alone some puss comes out (I'm not sure whether that is puss or detached skin). Some may describe it as little pimples but they seem more like little flat holes from where the skin has gone. It's not itchy or sore and I've had no discomfort. Im simply worried about the look. I'm not circumsized and the skin arround the glans penis has become redish as well as the glans penis which tends to be a combination of red and white colour. I also found that it is harder to sustain an erection.
I've had protected sex all my life, except with my wife who was a virgin untill I came along.

I would like to know if I should be worried and ofcourse what this is and what I should do.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi,

This could be  balanitis, or inflammation of the head of the penis which usually presents with white or red blotches or lumps in the head;  red, sore or itchy, or foul-smelling discharge. Balanitis is a common condition in uncircumcised men. Smegma may usually accumulate under the foreskin, and can become infected and cause irritation. This condition can also be due to thrush or candida, psoriasis, infection or irritation. It can sometimes be caused by sensitivity to perfumes in soaps and detergents and rough handling during intercourse.

It is best that you see your doctor for proper management. Antibiotics can clear up balanitis caused by bacterial infections.  If the problem is recurrent, and due to a tight foreskin, then circumcision may be advised. Take care and keep us posted.

Hi Dr Santos,

I hav an appoitnment in an hour so yes I am seeing a doctor. And since I've done a little study on this when i got freakd out and I'm a student paramedic I have a some knowledge in medical conditions I'm really hoping it isn't one of those infections you never completely lose. Some guys seem to have a reoccurring symptoms every 3 or so months. But like I said except for weird smell and not appealing look i have no discomfort.

Thank you very much, I'll keep you posted.

So the doctor says it's thrush. It probably took him 4 seconds to give diagnosis!! And I've been freaking out! pffft... turns out that flaky, scaly, dry, sticky and pealing appearance of the head of the penis with redness on glans as well as on skin covering the penis (uncircumsized men only) is often thrush. but don't take my word for it... if anyone is looking for answers you doctor is your best bet!
Appearantly men usualy get thrush from women and it usualy happens within 2 weeks after unprotected intercourse with an infected female. I got this cream called nystatin and was told to apply twice daily. Just did my first application and will keep people updated if it improves or not. Seems like many people seem to have a similar problem so this may help. But don't forget, you may have a different problem so don't take this for granted, seriously.

comment if you wana know more....

2nd day into treatment...

It seems that my glans has improved already. Only one day into treatment and i think it's working. After shower it seemed a lot more normal again. But every other time the cream makes it a little hard to see what's going on underneath. I might have recognised it and treated it early that's why im getting no discomfort of any sort.
