White spot from acid treatment

by luminousflyingmonkey, Jun 01, 2004 12:00AM
Exactly one month ago I had a couple of tiny warts burned of my penis with acid. I feel the doctor may have used a little too much acid as their were some craters where the warts had been. I put neosporin on it multiple times a day and slowly (one month later) the skin appears level again. But both spots are white and slightly shiny. the areas are little smaller than the back end of a standard bic pen. To make matters worse it seems as if there is a small amount of redness or maybe brownness around the perimeter of the spots...I cant tell if this is irritation from continually applying neosprin or pigment..I'm afraid its pigment which will put the white spots into sharper relief. Is it standard to have a little bit of redness around the wound at this time( a month later)...it doesn't look like infection just slightly darker skin. Will the the white-ness go away? what are the chances it wont? What worries me is that I have some dark marks where I was circumsized...could these spots turn hyperpigmented like that or is that hyperpigmented because there was actual cutting involved? whats the proper treatment at this time...should I continue to apply neosporin or not? Lastly it still stings a little...is this normal?
Many thanks...sorry to ask so many questions but this has been quite traumatizing for me!!!

The truth is, I'm not sure whether the pigment changes will persist or not.  It's hard to tell with pigment.  I don't think there is any likelihood that the white will become dark.  On the other hand, I don't think there really is anything to do but wait--it can take months for the pigment situation to clarify itself.  The best thing to do is to leave the area alone, since no cream or other method can do much to change the outcome.  At least some of the contrast is likely to go away.

In case the warts recur, liquid nitrogen is less likely to change skin color than acid.

Best.

That doesn't sound very optimistic!!
Is there at least a good chance it will return to normal?
I now see that the area around it is a little red and flakey...is this normal?

There is a chance--I can't say how good.

The redness must be irritation.  Best to leave alone.
