I posted a question a few weeks ago and since my problem has yet to go away, I am back :) About 6 weeks ago, I noticed a small red mark underneath my right eye - looked like a bug bite
or a pimple. It has gotten bigger and changed in appearance. In mid-June, I visited an urgent care where a doctor told me it looked like acne and prescribed doxycycline 100 mg and a topical benzoyl peroxide gel. I was on the antibiotic for 14 days and used the topical gel for about 20 days. At this time, the bump/lesion/mark started to look worse and was puffy, so I made an appt with a dermatologist. That is not for another 3 weeks. Feeling helpless and desperate, I visited a different urgent care where I saw a different doctor last week. She said that it didn't look like acne at all, and she thought it was eczema. She gave me triamcinolon 0.1% to use for 7 days. I am on day 5 and although the puffiness/swelling I was experiencing last week has gone away, the redness and raised patch
of skin is still present. There are also tiny bumps within the red. I am doubting that it is eczema because it doesn't really itch very bad, every once in a while it will irritate me, but it doesn't itch so badly that I have to scratch
it.
I've been constantly looking online to see if I can get ideas of what it could be, and I'm wondering if it could be rosacea flare up? I have always had "rosy cheeks" am very fair
has been red since I can remember. My skin has always been relatively clear but has been uneven in tone. I've never gone to the doctor for any problems like this, and in my visits to urgent care didn't mention rosacea. The other thing is that my mom and two of my brothers have chronically red noses
/cheeks as well. No one has ever been diagnosed and I'm not even sure if rosacea is hereditary. My right eye, above the spot, has also been irritated more so recently. I have always had dry eyes, am a contact lens wearer, and at times since I've had this spot, my eyelids have been sore and it feels like there is something in my eye.
I guess my question is could it be rosacea if I just have little patch of red raised skin with bumps? A lot of what I have read suggests that you would exhibit symptoms on a larger area of your face?
I am getting really frustrated with people asking me what is wrong with my face and want to be completely prepared when I finally get in to see a dermatologist at the end of the month. Any info or advice that a dermatologist or patient can provide would really be appreciated.
The bump seems to be localized in a specific area and this may be more than just a skin condition. I would suggest that you have this assessed by an ophthalmologist. Blepharitis, viral conjunctivitis, stye, hordeolum and other eye conditions may have to be considered here. As for rosacea, the presentation usually involves a rash which affects the cheeks. Severe forms usually affect the eyes and cause a sensation of eye dryness. It may also involve the nose. A complete ophthalmologic examination will help ascertain if eye involvement is present.
I understand the discomfort that this condition brings. If eye examination appears normal, then a skin condition may be considered here including allergic dermatitis and photosensitivity reactions.
