Yasmin Birth Control for Acne?

by krushing, Apr 09, 2007 12:00AM
I went to the dermatologist the other day for several reasons.  One being I am 26 years old and I am starting to experience acne problems.  The doctor told me that it is common for young adults to get it, but not the same places as teens, which that is correct with where my problem area is.  The doctor suggested changing my birth control to Yasmin because it has been researched to be an acne medication along with being a birth control.  The doctor said with that and the acne cream that should help my problem since I only get breakouts within my time of the month.  My questions are...1) anyone who is on Yasmin, is this helping you have a better complexion? 2) how is the pill effecting your mood, etc.?  I am on Loestrin, which the low does of hormones helps me.  The doctor said the only difference between the Loestrin and Yasmin is Yasmin has a little more progesterone.  Just curious to see what others think that are taking it.  The doctor wrote me a prescription for Yasmin, but I am waiting to hear back from my gynecologist to see if changing is a good idea.  Thanks!

I have been on yasmin for 3 months now and it has really helped clear my acne problem. But there are some side effects. My boobs are sore all the time, and I have headaches at least once a week, which I never got when I wasn't on the pill. I recently have noticed that I've been a little more emotional than normal, and I've gained 2-3 pounds since going on it. I overall like it as far as birth control goes. Hope this helps.

I have been on Yasmin since I was 18. I am 21 now. It didn't do much for my acne... considering it was just a week ago I got so fed up that I finally went to a dermatologist. But you know what? Everybody reacts differently!!! So give it a try!

Yasmin has been a great birth control. No side effects. I think that I read somewhere there there is a diuretic in Yasmin so you might pee a little more often... but to be honest I don't notice a thing!

So give it a shot.. what do you have to lose?

Hi. this is quite an old thread but people searching for information about Yasmin via a search engine will find it, and medhelp users may read through the archives. Therefore, I would like to point out that patients experiencing headaches whilst on a combined pill like Yasmin or Diane35 must seek medical advice.
The advice leaflet enclosed with such pills states: "If you experience migraine for the first time or if existing migraine occurs more often than before or you have unusually bad headaches or more headaches than before, take no further tablets and consult your doctor immediately. In the meantime use another method of contraception such as a condom."
