abnormal cells

by mermaid456, Mar 20, 2009 02:53PM
I recently had a mole removed.  It came back as having abnormal cells.  My doctor wanted to remove another mole in order to compare them.  Results are not back yet.  I was also told 2 months ago that I had abnormal cells on my cervix after a colposcopy.  (I have HPV)  The gynochologist said I should wait to see if the cells would heal, because they were very mild.  Could these two areas of abnormal cells be related?  If so, what should I do?

Hi,

Moles are growths on the skin that may or my not change over time. They occur when cells (melanocytes) in the skin grow in a cluster instead of being spread throughout the skin.  They can appear anywhere on the skin.  However, the skin cells in the cervical area are  different.  At this point, wait for the results of the second for comparison. And have regular follow-up with your gynecologist for monitoring.

Do you have family history of cancer? The tendency of developing abnormal cells may also be inherited in some cases. Take care and keep us posted.
