and scrotum for about 4 years now. A dermatologist prescribed Protopic, but I am concerned about using it long term in light of its connection to Lymphoma. Prior to that a family
doctor prescribed Nystantin cream, however, which I am back to using now. However, the skin in the scrotum area is thickening over time, and unless I am reapplying religiously twice EVERY day, I have incredible bouts of itching
in both areas. Is this really Eczema? If so, shouldn't it go away after a lengthly period of application of the Nystantin? It seams I never get relief - for even 1 day. Should I seek out a Proctologist instead? I quit drinking alcohol all together, which has helped, but not enough. What other causes should I investigate?
Hello,
Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it sounds like lichen chronicus. Lichen Simplex Chronicus is seen in people with eczema.
It is treated like chronic eczema by decreasing water and soap contact, and applying emollients. Topical steroids are almost always needed to control the symptoms. You can use mild steroid cream like Dermacort and if the symptoms persist then high potency steroids and oral steroids may be needed.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
