anal skin tag

Is it safe to cut off an anal skin tag?? Mine is right at the opening and has a large base. I've heard of people cutting them off and tying a string around it but I'm not sure for it's location.  I did try tying it with a string but couldn't get it to stay in place. Is it ok to just snip if off with scissors?

Is there a way I can take care of it at home? I don't have the insurance for a doctor. It doesn't bother me but I don't like having it. Even though no one sees it I just feel unattractive.
