are you or can you develope a fever with posion oak

Can you develope a fever with posion oak and if so what should i give a 5 year old for it.  The pharmisict said to give him benadryl by mouth do to his age.  He is no longer itching but what about the fever?  Help me please?!

Sometimes fever can develop as part of the allergic reaction.In a person with allergies, the immune response is oversensitive. When it recognizes an allergen, it releases chemicals, such as histamines. This causes itching, swelling, mucus production, muscle spasms, hives, rashes, and other symptoms, which vary from person to person.
You can start him on Benadryl and see if the fever subsides.If not you may have to get him examined and then further treatment can be initiated.
Since allergy is caused by the chemical histamine, anti-histamines will reverse all of the effects caused as part of the allergy.
If his symptoms worsen or he develops a breathing difficulty it is a medical emergency, he will need immediate attention.
