armpit rash

armpit rash

My daughter has had a rash under her armpits for a couple of days now.  I have been putting elidil on it and lotion but nothing seems to help.  It really burns her and i feel bad.  I am going to try and get her in to see the doctor next week.  What can I do until then to ease her pain?

Hi

There can be many causes for underarm rash e.g. dermatitis (atopic, contact, allergic), heat rash, excessive sweating, folliculitis, boils, scabies, psoriasis, some infection leading to enlargement of axillary lymph nodes.

You may try an over-the-counter antifungal cream like 1% clotrimazole. Your daughter should also maintain hygiene and try to keep the area clean and dry, wear loose-fitting cotton clothing. She should use an antibacterial soap, avoid deodorant / cosmetics.

Since it is impossible to diagnose skin conditions without actually able to examine the patient, I suggest that you consult a dermatologist who can determine the cause and prescribe appropriate treatment for it.

Regards.
