I have been dealing with what I consider Hives four separate times now. The first time was in 1/04, then again 3/05, again this summer in 6-07 and currently I have had this rash for about three weeks. I have been to the doctors and been diagnosed with papular dermatitis during pregnancy, contact/allergic dermatitis, and atopic
to toe, comes and goes (during month long periods), doesn't seem to coincide with any food, drug, or certain chemical. I am so frustrated. I keep getting written off like it is no big deal. Other terms I have found to describe my rash are: macular, pruritic (itchy), blanching (these words are from the doctors that I found looking through my medical records.) Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you
I wish I could help! But I am in the same predicament. Well not exactly, I have a recurring rash in the leg creases and between my legs. For over six months I have been going to multiple dermatologists and my family
doctor. They all disagree with themselves. One time it's eczema then it can't be eczema. I just got back from my allergist, he gave me a letter and asked me to give it to the dermatologist. He says it's fungal and can prove that their is fungus but can't explain why the anti fungal medication only clears it up temporarily. The dermatologist gave me cortisone ointments and elidel. The cortisone makes it worse almost immediately and the doctor just shrugs. I told the doctor it feels like I have a load of tacks in my underwear . I made an appointment with a real dermatologist at the University of Penn. My allergist said he has many patients with eczema and has never seen someone that wasn't allergic to cortisone react that way. I am beginning to think that most dermatologist cheated on their exams. This will be the fourth dermatologist.
doctor today to see what he says. I am so frustrated. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great! I have also tried claritin, benedrayl, vistiral, topical creams, and pepcid without full relieve. I am on 5 weeks for this go-around of breakout.
Sometimes it is not possible to pinpoint the cause of rashes as they may be caused by mould spores, dust mites, pollen etc., it is possible to be allergic to practically anything. I would take antihistamines during flare-ups. If you use the same brand for a long time it may become less effective so switch to a different brand eg from Piriton to Clarityn. Hydrocortisone cream is not indicated for long term use so you need to find a way to manage your condition. The best products i can recommend are those by Lutsine, Oiltum, Aveeno and Eucerin. Look on their websites for local stockists or companies who deliver. If your doctor is not sympathetic find one who is. If you develop any other symptoms with your rashes such as breathing difficulties or swelling
full time. I stay up 2 days a week for 24 hours or more. I am not really in a position to stay on anti-histamines b/c of the effects. I went to a new PCP today and FINALLY he says yes I think you have hives not contact dermatitis, which is what my old doctor was saying. I am getting into a dermatologist soon. Thank you again for your advice.
