big time acne

my 15 yr son has had a severe case of acne on his back for 2-3 yrs tried numerous thingds ,wont go away,will it turn to staff ,what works best ,tried the dr, meds the tv ad meds the herbal remedys ? any help please ,i never had a zit my whole life ,and dont remember his mom ever havig
