black patches

I work as a pharmacist and someone showed me a skin problem on his back. Please could you try to diagnose.
He is in his fifties, bangladeshi origin. He has these black patches on his back that are intensely itchy. They are planar, like ink staining within the skin with no visible dryness. They are about two inches in diameter, irregular pattern. They are located on his upper back, centrally, not spreading. Only about three or our patches. Please help.
