blotches & hive-like bumps

I have big blotches of red bumpiness on my abdomen, small blotches on one side of my neck, little bumps in blotch-like patches on my wrists, and now also between my pinky and ring finger. The newer, smaller bumps are not as red as the older, bigger blotches. I saw a doctor because a few big doses of benadril didn't help. I was diagnosed w/ hives, and started steroidal treatment 5 days ago. Neither the oral steroidal tx or the cream have helped. Benadril continues to be ineffective. I didn't start any new medication. Any guesses?

Hello,
From the symptoms it sounds like hives. Keep on taking the Benadryl or Zyrtec as sometimes it may be required to be taken for weeks. Also comply with the dermatologist and use the steroids that have been prescribed. Also apply calamine lotion on the rashes as it will help in soothing the skin. If the symptoms persist for 6 weeks after treatment then the possibility of chronic urticaria has to be ruled out as it may be due to auto antibodies.
