Do they actually look bruised (purple, or reddish purple), or are they discolored (hyperpigmented, not like the rest of your skin color)?

Please give me a little more to go on?

A flat bruise with no pain sensation can be what is medically called "ecchymosis".

If you don't remember doing anything to promote this, I would suggest you see your doctor and have him check your vitamin K level, prothrombin time, etc... and see if you are developing a vessel leakage issue.

Then too, there are some vitamin deficiencies (vitamin K tops the list) that can promote the issue as well as some medications (i.e. aspirin).

Regardless, watch the rest of you (or have the wife do it) and if you are tending to bruise easily in other areas besides the armpits, it's time for you to be seen!

Hello,
From your symptoms it looks like a bruise. The blood under the skin which causes the discoloration of bruising should be totally reabsorbed by the body in three weeks or less.
If the bruise remains or more such bruises appear without any trauma then please get an evaluation done from a physician. Anemia and deficiency of vitamins C, K, B12, or folic acid are the common causes of easy bruisability. Try taking iron tablets and multivitamins for some days and see if the symptoms improve. If the symptoms do not improve, get yourself evaluated by a physician and look out for SLE, bone marrow disorders, liver diseases or leukemias. Anti-clotting (anti-coagulants) medication also can cause increased bruising.

I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
