Bumps on the head with slight tenderness without presenting redness may suggest swollen lymph nodes. There are occipital lymph nodes or nodes found behind the head .If this is present, scalp infections and skin infections in the area have to be ruled out. I suggest that you have this assessed by an internist so that a complete physical examination be done. He may need oral antibiotics for this if an infection is considered. If not, musculoskeletal pain or arthritic pains may be a differential also.
Has he taken pain relievers for the pain? If yes, did the pain subside?
