bumps on lips and burning

by briant401, Jul 10, 2009 09:51PM
A few weeks ago i noticed i had small white bumps on my lips, I learned that they were Fordyce spots.  I am not sure if there is normal but the past week or so, they have gotten red and my lips feel like they are burning.  Is this normal? did i agravate them and this is what happens.  I was using blistex but decided to stop because it seems to be making them worse. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
It sounds like perioral dermatitis. Perioral dermatitis is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis.Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided.

If the symptoms are not controlled by topical antibiotics, then oral antibiotics may be needed.Pls consult your dermatologist and discuss this with him.
Hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.

thanks for responding, i looked up perioral dermatitis and not sure if that is what is going on.  I was at the dermatologist 2 weeks ago and am being treated for sebhoric dermatist, Sorry should have mentioned it earlier but forgot, could the prescription face wash i am using be causing it.  When i woke up this morning it was gone, but will no doubt come back.  There is no peeling or cracking just the feeling that they are dry and mild burning.
