bumps on scalp on top of head

bumps on scalp on top of head

my son has been fighting an infection on the top of his head (scalp) for about a year.  it started with bumps coming up on the top of his head.  they get bigger and when lanced have a pus in them.  they do hurt also. a dermatologist has treated him with antibiotics and done a culture of the pus.  he has taken cipro for one month, they came back.  clindamycin for one month - came back.  now he has taken rifampin for one month and they were popping up again, so doctor gave him the same antibiotic again but 2 pills a day instead of one.  i am worried about all the antibiotics and still no diagnosis.  should he change doctors?

Hi,
It seems like you have folliculitis of the scalp which is a superficial bacterial infection of the hair follicles.  Treating with  the same antibiotics can eventually cause restistance to that.
You did not mention what type of scalp infection your son has been diagnosed with.
Get a culture and sesitivity done each time before you start him on any medications.
Altrnatively you could consult another skin specialist to find out the cause.
Also keep bed linen clean and scalp clean.
