They present as pimples or pustules located around a hair follicle. Topical antiseptic treatment is adequate for most cases.
Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment can also be applied on the bumps.
If the bumps are itchy then it could be due to scalp seborrhoea. It is a skin disorder affecting the scalp, face, and trunk causing scaly, flaky, itchy, red skin.
Treatment is with shampoos containing coal tar, ciclopiroxolamine ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione.
