burning red rash on face

by craica, Sep 25, 2009 09:52PM
Hello,
Since I was a teen I would get a red rash on my face, mostly after eating, usually at dinner, it just looked like blush. As I have gotten older, food does not need to be involved, the time of day varies, cold weather can be an issue and the rash burns so bad it feels like someone set my face on fire or I was scalded. Sometimes there are bumps afterward. I also have a slight fever when I get the rash. The raswh is on my cheeks, down the sides of my face, where the bones are not present, sometimes by my chin but not my mouth, sometimes my nose and forehead. My face feels very hot to the touch too. My hands get a non-burning rash when I enter places like public restrooms, I always carry hand santizer and make sure to wash well at the sink too. That seems to help and I don't know if they are related. What I do know is that if feels like my face is going to peel off. Any ideas or tips are welcome.
Thanks, cc

To: craica,
Hello,
What you seem to be having is irritant contact dermatitis or hives as a result of an allergy. Avoid using any lotions and creams over the face for the meantime. Wash your face with a mild cleanser with moisturizing properties like Cetaphil. Pat your face dry. Then apply a good hypoallergenic moisturizer over the area and see if this improves. If the symptoms still persist then you can apply mild steroid like dermacort.

If the irritation persists then please get it evaluated from a dermatologist.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
