can you get a sore from kissing but it not be a cold sore?

My boyfriend and I were making out for an extensive period of time (hour +) on two consecutive days .  My lips became chapped both days, on the second day we kept kissing for about 3 hours and then my bottom left corner of my lip became a little tender and sore when we were kissing.  Sometimes I could feel his teeth grazing (not nibbling or biting just near it) my lip.  When we finally stopped I went to put some chapstick on my lips, looked in the mirror, and noticed a sore on that area, and I told him I think you just murdered my lip.  

I have had cold sores since I was little.  I usually get them twice a year and kind of spaced out.  Usually during something stressful or a big event in my life.  I just got one near the fourth of July and I usually know when I'm getting one.  I don't think this sore on my mouth is a cold sore, but it does look very similiar to one. It has been on my lip for almost a week now.  I'm just wondering if you could get a sore on your lip simply from kissing too much.
