My sonis nine years of age and has a birthmarkBirthmarks - pigmented Birthmarks - red on his leg. It has recently got redder and bigger and he says it is very itchy. What should I do. Do I need to get it checked out?
Some birthmarks need no further intervention as most may resolve as the child grows. Birthmarks especially hemangiomas may persist with age. Cosmetic reasons may prompt treatment. In cases, wherein the birthmarks appear to progress or seems to increase in size or grow larger in time, then further evaluation is necessary. It is possible that an overlying dermatitis or fungal infection may be present over the affected skin. This needs to be treated to avoid further infection or irritation.
