cocaine/hyperhidrosis

by spencerspark, Mar 07, 2007 12:00AM
hi   I am 34 years of age and have been taking cocaine and alcohol once a week for 12 years, about 11 years ago i was diagnosed with hyperhidrosis on my feet only,,about 1 year ago my hands started sweating too, anyway the most concerning part is about 7 months ago after my weekley binge i started sweating everywhere,my head, neck, chest, back, bum, legs EVERYWHERE...and it seems like my thermastat in my head is so sensitive.Even if i walk up the stairs i get a tingling sensation in my chest and i start to sweat EVERYWHERE.i have had all blood tests for thyroids e.t.c which were all clear. But im still concerned because ive been off the cocaine for 2 months now but im still sweating every where......can you please tell me if i can get over this as this is ruining my life   manythanks   darren

I don't know whether there is a connection between cocaine and sweating.  I've seen people who sweat excessively, whether in one area or more generally, but there's no specific cause found in most such cases.  Treatment for widespread sweating is very difficult, beyond common-sense measures like keeping cool, powdering, and so forth.  But basically, I don't know why you're sweating.  Sorry I can't be more helpful.

are you sure they did all the blood tests for thyroid or just TSH?
It might be informative if they actually do the thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3.
I also wonder if they tested you for Hashimoto's (can be hyper in early stages) or Graves.  Graves folks have specific TSI (thyroid stimulating antibodies).
It just seems I hear a lot of reports about TSH in early stages of autoimmune thyroid disesase not reflecting thyroid status so I think it's wise to fully investigate if you suspect that.  But especially if you have any family history of thyroid disorder or any other symptoms that would be indicative of hyperthyroidism.
