concerd over possibility of oral herpes

by jkh876, May 12, 2006 12:00AM
Hi, thank you for the service your provide through this website.

I am worried about oral herpes. I am concerned in part because I went to a strip club and there was contact between a dancer and my face, including her inner thigh.   A week or two after this I became sick with a fever, headache and really bad sore throat.  My eyes were bothering me, mostly at night.  They would feel like they were burning and I would wake up with crust around my eyes.  This started in one eye but went to the other.  The skin below my eyes also felt like it was burning. One morning there was a red ring under my eye.  It went away in about half an hour.  But I could still see a little bit of a raised area where the ring was.

After that stopped, the area around my mouth felt like it was burning and became red.  My lips were dry and the area above my lip also seemed to hurt.  I noticed a much smaller (a few mm) ring just above my upper lip.  It looked like the red ring was blood vessels.  Again, the redness went away in about an hour.  But there was a slightly raised border you could continue to just barely make out.

Now, a week later there was a small circle, (again a few mm above) where the previous one was.  This however looks different.  It is not very noticeable.  But you can make out a clear border of a red circle under the right light.  The skin is not raised at all.  Maybe this is just a shaving injury. There may have been a small pimple there I shaved over, im not sure.

None of these had any blisters or groups of blisters associated with them.  But combined with the illness, and the soreness around my mouth I am concerned. .  I realize I may very well be overacting to this.  I mentioned the eye problems to my doctor.  And he thought allergies.  There was nothing to culture.  He also said I have dermatographia which could have led to the inflamation (inflammation).  This whole things has been about 7 weeks in duration.

Thanks very much.

Nothing in your description sounds like herpes, including the fact that it's lasted 7 weeks.  My best guess is that you had a virus of some sort that made you feel ill, and that what's left is shaving irritation or something irrelevant both to the virus and to any STD.  Of course, it would take a doctor's exam in person to tell you for sure.

Take care.
