continuing eczema (atopic dermatitis)

5 year old boy has a history of eczema on extensor surfaces since 6mos old, exacerbated by UR and GI infections, psychological stress, gluten, and casein in the diet, environmental allergens( Ragweed, Mold). It has generalized itself to his entire body with extensor areas most heavily affected.  the tops of his feet look burned. Elidel- didn't do anything. I tried oatmeal baths. Dermatop, Elicon worked for a little while, now doesn't really do anything. Biggest problem now- condition of the skin after he has excoriated it. Baths, soaks, compresses?I don't want to put steroid cream on irritated skin.

Elidel doesn't work al that well.  If you don't use steroid creams on the eczema, it isn't likely to get any better.  If you use the proper steroid under supervision, you needn't worry about excessive absorption.  But I don't see that you have much choice, because if you don't treat your child's eczema, he'll be itchy and miserable.

Best.
