cutaneous mastocytoma

Hi Doc,
My 6 month old daughter has 24 spots on her body- the skin specialist said these are cutaneous mastocytomas and that they will go away in a few years. He said nothing much to worry about. she has another visit with him in 6mths. Is this the same thing as Urticaria pigmentosa. She appears to be getting the odd new spot every month or so- will this stop. I'm worried about this becoming systemic or progressing into something life threatning. She is other wise fit and well with no ill effects. How many infants get rid of this condition and what percentage get bad complications
Thankyou for any light you may shed on this.

Urticaria pigmentosa is the most common form of mastocyosis--conditions in which there are colllections of mast cells.  That's the kind your child undoubtedly has, and it is not at all likely to become systemic, as your child's doctor says.  The condition goes away in a few years.  Your daughter should be fine.

Best.
