cyst problem

I have a pretty good sized cyst on my back. It has been there for about ten years.I have let docters look at it most of them acts like it might come back if they cut it out and it might leave a scar.It is very strange,it gets sore sometimes and my husband mashes it and a hard thing like a pencil lead comes out of it, there is always a hole there.and its swelled all around the hole.Can you tell me what it is and if it needs to be cut out? I have been to general practice docters but I have never let a dermatoligist look at it should I ?
