dark skin

I have dark discoloration around my neck, under my armpits, and in between my thighs..i had this pretty muck my whole life..i have tried using rubbing alcohol to scrub off the stains..but it doesn't seem to work..
What is the cause of this discoloration?  How can i get rid of this??

Such kind of dark discoloration is common in the folds of skin where you sweat and can happen more if you are obese. You should consult a dermatologist and get prescribed various skin creams like hydroquinone, azelaic acid, corticosteroids, tretinoin cream and laser treatment. If it still persists then you can go in for laser treatment, Chemical peeling or microdermabrasion. Also then the possibility of acanthosis nigricans has to be ruled out.
