dermatitis that doesnt go away

I have red spots on either side of my nose. I have had them for months and they sometimes almost go away. But they have a pattern of turning into white flakes then when I gently peel them off or when I control myself and leave them on it goes back to the irritated red skin again. I used to put tons of bensol peroxide 10% and saltic acid on my skin I havent had acne for a year. Could this be damage from the harsh BP I put on my skin? When I shower it seems the make the skin red and irritated again. No over the counter lotion works probly because of the lanolin. Olive oil moisturises the skin but doesnt make it go away. If anything I feel that it heals better without olive oil it is almost gone now I will see if it comes back.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
From the symptoms the first possibility to be ruled out is of seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Later, pityrosporum yeast grows excessively in the sebum, sometime along with bacteria, making the dermatitis more persistent.

Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases. The other possibilities are of eczema, lupus erythematosus or dermatitis. Best would be to consult a dermatologist and get biopsy skin done to confirm the diagnosis.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
