flaking hands

by pauvince11, Mar 03, 2009 02:09AM
Hi! I have this skin problem that bugs me for about 2 weeks now.

I just suffered from a skin allergy.  I took antihistamine and was gone after a week. After that I notice that my feet is sometimes itchy that it worries me now maybe a case of athletes foot, i dunno... I never had it before. I regularly visit the salon for my footspa sessions and all. Im actually in denial, but I'm here seeking for help.

I tried to google it, and I found out that SOME symptoms of it (athletes foot) like itchyness is present. I dont know it this is associated with the allergy I had a week prior to noticing that my feet itch. No signs of flakes in my soles or in between toes but my hands are drying and skin peels off, at first it was in just on finger... then spreads to the other.

What am I dealing with? Do i need to dilute my hands and feet to water with vinegar and take extra precautions by visiting a derma? PLS HELP ME! thanks in advance.

Hi,

Fungal infection from one part of the body may spread to other parts. Athlete's foot may present with pruritus among other things. While peeling skin on hands may also indicate fungal infection. Definite diagnosis of fungal infection is with direct examination and skin scrapings of the affected area and observation under the microscope.
In some cases, peeling hands is temporary and harmless. Other causes of this condition include excessive perspiration, dry skin, or from certain medications.  Over-the-counter antifungal medication may help. However, if it persists, have this evaluated further for proper management. It is important to keep your feet and hands clean and dry as fungus love to thrive in dark and moist areas. Take care and keep us posted.
