flat warts-genital warts

by worriedwart, Jan 13, 2006 12:00AM
I have flat warts on my hand about 9 or so.  I went to the dermatologist last week to treat them and they froze them with liquid nitrogen.  They swelled up , some poped on their own and some are peeling (shedding skin)now, the PA popped one because it was so large and painful 5 days after treatment.

I noticed some "funny" looking skin at on my penis head and freaked out.  I went to the dermatologist today to check it out and he said nothing to worry about because those were normal growths.

My concern is I had a band-aid (opposite of the wart hand) on when I showed the dr. where the problem was on my penis and touched my penis.  Earlier I washed my hands and the band-aid was wet and what if I touched a wart with the band-aid and later touched my penis with the bandaid that may be wet.  Could the virus transfer?

And where the PA popped my wart there was pus oozing out and seems to fill up but oozes out again when I put a bandaid on it.  Is this ok?

And finally I might have to return to get the freezing treatment again since my dr. said about 2 or so treatments are needed to resolve the problem.  I was thinking having them cut out since they would hurt just as much and cutting them would take care ofthe problem once and for all.  would that be ok if I stopped the freezing treatment?

Should I wear a glove to shower and eat to prevent passing the virus? And is it ok to use lotion since my hands are chapped (wart hand)

Thanks

You don't need to worry about spreading them from hand top genital, or anywhere else for that matter.  If you could do that, you'd have them all over, but for some reason warts don;t behave that way.  Popping the blister is no problem either.  We generally don't attack warts surgically, because there's a greater chance of permanent scarring that way, and because warts are a virus, they often come back anyway.  By the way, that's especially true of flat warts--if they keep coming back after freezing, I just advise people to wait them out, since they always go away on their own eventually.

Take care.

thanks dr.  you put my mind at ease.

Are they more contagious now than before treatment?

one last question.  I am using vaseline for my chapped hand, the one with warts is that ok?

by Alan Rockoff, MD, Jan 16, 2006 12:00AM
Yes.

I know this is a stupid question but as you know I have flat and common warts on my hands and is being treated.  If I touched an area near my groin and later pre-*** comes into that area is there a chance of spreading the warts?

BTW treatment is well. almost gone.

Hi Dr.  I touched my groin area and my underwear.
